Caution:
- This data is based on very high resolution satellite images collected at varying times and atmospheric conditions. As a result the global map does not represent a snapshot in time. Auxiliary files available on AWS include imagery details.
- The machine learning model producing this data is trained and validated on a limited geographic range. Continued comparison and validation is needed to assess and contextualize errors and uncertainties in the estimates across all geographies and input imagery conditions.
- Field validation for very tall trees (>25 meters) was not performed during the development of this dataset. This may affect derivatives of the data such as above ground carbon estimates.
- Terrain slope may influence canopy height estimates by way of modifying the length of a shadow versus totally flat ground. The machine learning model may produce estimates with systematic bias in areas depending on the properties of the surrounding terrain.
